Computer Auto Restart problem....Fix it without Technician

The latest versions of Microsoft Windows facilitate the user to customize how his computer responds when it encounters a critical error. For example, if the fatal error or commonly known as 'STOP error' occurs, how exactly the computer shall respond. This facility was unavailable in older versions of Windows like Windows 9x. As default, whenever the BSOD (i.e. STOP Error) occurs, the computer restarts automatically in order to prevent damage to the physical hardware components.

The computer auto restart problem occurs due to several reasons such as unsupported software installation, corrupted system files and corrupted registry, or incorrect BIOS configurations. You can prevent your computer from automatically restarting every time the STOP error occurs, but it is not recommended. This is because it will not achieve anything nor solve the problem.

Let us go through the solutions that helped for most users I had helped yet.

    Unsupported Software Installation

Software incompatibility often leads to STOP error and thereby computer auto restart problem occurs. Software incompatibility refers to the installation of unsupported software packages. Let us take an example- if you are running Windows XP and had installed a software product designed for only Windows 7, then it might cause serious problems to your system.

    Remove the unsupported software:

    1. Click Start button on the Taskbar.
    2. Click Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a Program.
    3. Select the unsupported software product you had installed. If you are not aware about it, select a recently installed software product.
    4. Click Uninstall button, and follow the on screen instructions.
    5. Reboot the machine after completion.

    Corruption in System Files

As a natural principal, the operating system files should not be modified until the troubleshooting is required. Unfortunately, there are cases where the system files are unauthorized modified by the third-party software products. In such a case, the computer auto restart problem happens. For solving this problem, restore the corrupted system file to their original versions. You need to take help of System File Checker (SFC) tool, by performing the steps below.

Using SFC to Restore the Original System Files:

    1. Insert the media you used to install your operating system.
    2. Click Start button on the Taskbar.
    3. Click Run.
    4. Type SFC /ScanNow
    5. Press ENTER to start the process.

    Corrupted Registry

Registry entries are responsible for most errors and problems with your computer. Serious junk entries in the registry result in computer auto restart issue and may cause damage to your important data. You have to scan and fix the registry corruption by using a third-party Registry Cleaner and PC Optimizer product.

    Incorrect BIOS Configurations

The BIOS settings may cause computer auto restart problem if they are not properly set-up. You shall restore them to the defaults by performing the following procedures.

    Restoring the Default BIOS Settings:

    1. Restart your machine.
    2. Press F2 or Delete button.
    3. Click Exit menu.
    4. Select the option Restore Defaults, and press ENTER.
    5. Confirm your change.
    6. The machine shall restart again.
